How well do you know your next-door neighbors?
There is a crazy cat lady that lives next door. Her name is Wanda and she runs a business out of her apartment, Red Diaper Productions. She's an odd one. I think at one point she had kids and a husband maybe, but I'm not sure. She once gave me a key to her apartment to feed her cat(s?) and pass on the key to some people she was letting stay there for the weekend. So of course I checked out the size of her apartment and the layout and her crazy knickknacks all over the place, including her pictures. I don't feel bad about snooping because she did give me a key and I didn't open anything up or anything like that. She is considerably more nosy than I am as she has invited herself into my apartment on more than one occasion. Once when I first moved in and we were painting the apartment. The painter had popped the lock and I didn't know the trick to opening the door, so I knocked on her door for help. She opened the door then walked right in. I didn't quite know what to do about it, so I thanked her for her help and kept the door open so she could leave. Then she walked deeper into the apartment, commenting on how much of a pain it must be to get the place painted and how her apartment is laid out differently. I thought about following her, but I thought it might encourage her, so I stayed at the door, holding it open. When she left, I thanked her again and closed the door immediately. Now, I'd say that's a lot more nosy than me. At least I was invited to come in.
Also, she uses big rubber gloves to shove her oversized trashbags down the trash chute. From this I know she is not very bright. I passed her trying to shove a full-size Glad bag down the teeny chute and she commented on how people must have had less trash when the building was made. I told her it's easier to get trash down when you use smaller bags and take them out more often, to which she replied "I have too much trash to use little bags." Um...you are stupid. I left her with her arm still shoving garbage down the trash chute. A few times, you can tell she'd given up and just left the giant trash bag in the hallway next to the chute.
I came back from AC up $750. Jim didn't believe that the Borgata likes to give me money. I won almost $500 the first night at the Sands. I won $75 at blackjack while waiting for a poker tournament to start. The tournament was $20/10 with a $20 add-on after the first hour and after a while of doing decently in chips, I put the short stack all in with my pocket Q's. He called with 9,8 off and ended up sucking me out with a straight on the river. After that I was severely short stacked for the next 2 hours. I won a little here and lost a little there, then ended up being almost blinded in when they were 2000-4000. I had 5000 left on the big blind with A4 clubs and pushed all in. I got called by pocket K's and thought I was done for, but I sucked out on him with a flush. Then I pushed in again on the next hand with pocket 6's against pocket 8's and I thought I was done again, but I got a 6 on the river and then had a decently sized stack. Then I kept catching cards and took the next 15 or so hands to take out everyone at my table except for one person who barely hung on to reach the final table. I came into the final table with over 200,000 chips, easily double the next chip stack, then proceeded to catch cards...unfortunately, they were only enough to play and not enough to win. Jim made it to the final table too and he happened to draw the seat next to me with me in seat 1 and him in seat 2. I put him all in when I had pocket J's, figuring he'd fold because he should know I wouldn't push him around unless I had a better hand since it's in my best interest that he last longer in the tournament. He called anyways with pocket 6's and ended up pulling a 6 on the turn. Then he pissed the chips he won off me away in the next hand. I came up against better cards and better players and I got the distinct feeling of being outplayed, but by then there were only 3 of us left and I was short-stacked. I was blinded in, which really sucks because there was one hand where I had pocket 4's and didn't play because a relatively tight player pushed in. I should have played, but I didn't. Boo. Anyways, I was blinded in with 10,4 off and the guy had J4 and nothing came so he high-carded me out of the tournament. I walked away with $414 that I had to split with Jim. He went out 6th and got $188, so we split down the middle with $301 each.
Saturday I proceeded to win - over $200 on a slot fluke, $40 at BJ that I brought to the poker table and, after a good 7 hours of play, turned my $140 into $409. Meanwhile, Jim was losing almost all his $ and hung on to a bit to bring to the tables on Sunday. Both of us lost on Sunday. Jim lost all the rest of his $ and I lost $180 that I could have won back had I not had to catch a bus home. For the rest of the night, Jim was all defeated and sad. All in all, we had a great comped room, mostly comped food courtesy of Jim's high-rolling great aunt and I came home with a lot more $$ than I went there with. Yay me!
I've been so lazy this past week that I think my body will begin to atrophy soon. I've spent more time browsing the internet this week than I did the whole rest of the year combined. I think the dog is beginning to wonder why he no longer has alone time. I have to buy a light bulb for the kitchen light, which is florescent. Maybe I'll actually go outside and get one today.
I finished reading my first David Sedaris book and want to get my hands on Me Talk Pretty One Day. I have a bunch of books in the house that I haven't read, so maybe I'll get on that.
I just played a tournament with 1118 people on partypoker. I came in 32 and they payed out to 30th. Grrr.
I want a grill. I want a balcony to put a grill on. If I had one, I would grill up some Cheddar Wurst for lunch. As it is, I will sit here and watch the Food Network and druel over all the grilled food.
What did you do this weekend?
I spent Saturday pretty much sitting around the house with the husband. I did take Rayden to the dog park and Jim and I gave him a bath when we got home. Yesterday, I spent $200 on basically just a bunch of food, more deodorant than I can use in a year, and some light bulbs. Yeah...that's a lot of food. Jim and I took the dog on the Metro North up to Myra's where we went to Costco and Stew Leonard's. I have to say, had I bought all that in the city, it would have easily cost double what I paid, but thank god for suburbs and wholesale! I finally found Cheddar Wurst at Stew Leonard's. I have looked for Cheddar Wurst in every NYC grocery store since having it a Jim's family reunion 3-4 years ago. It's good, but I don't know if it's good enough to warrant my constant searching. You know when something is so elusive that you become preoccupied with capturing it? Like Jim and fireflies, Rayden and pigeons, that's me and Cheddar Wurst. But now the search is over and I have two packages sitting in the freezer. Nice.
After shopping we went back to Myra's and Paul fired up the grill for some burgers, excellent rib eye steak, and some marinated chicken. Damn good rib eye steak! We finished up with some chocolate donut ice cream (good idea Eric!) and some key lime pie. Not good together, but separately, very good. Mmmm...I love food.
I don't exactly know what this thing is, but I have the summer to learn. I have nothing else to do. On today's to-do list is: take the dog to the dog park and give him a bath. A whopping 2 tasks to accomplish before the day is over. Interestingly enough, there are as many tasks on it now as there were when I woke up this morning afternoon. Summer is the best.
